Washroom Hard Floor Scrubbing

This procedure is performed to remove soil from the tile and grouting of washroom and locker room floor surfaces which cannot be removed through dust mopping, broom sweeping or damp mopping.  The floor product solution used in the scrubbing process can vary depending upon the type of soil found on the floor and the type of floor surface.  A General Purpose Cleaner should be used on floors, which have no grouting and have dried-on soil.  A Degreaser should be used on floors with oily soil.  A Heavy Duty Bowl Cleaner should be used on ceramic and quarry tile floors.

Broom sweep entire floor area to be scrubbed including corners, then pick-up accumulated soil using counter brush and dustpan.

Apply cleaner solution with wet mop to an area no larger than 10' x 10' starting at the farthest point from the entrance. Allow several minutes of dwell time.  Apply enough solution to keep area from drying throughout the scrubbing period.

Scrub the corners, edges, baseboards, partition bases and the bases of floor mounted toilets using the brown utility pad on the handle or a power edging machine.

Position the 175 rpm floor machine close to the solution applied area. Tip the machine and "twist" and "lock in" the nylon brush block.  Return the floor machine back to the upright position and plug it in.  Begin scrubbing solution area.  Move floor machine cautiously to prevent slips and falls.  Use the putty knife to remove stubborn soil.  Wipe all solution splashed onto walls, baseboards and doors using a Wall Cleaner solution and wiping cloth.  The sooner this is done, the easier it is to remove.  Apply more cleaner solution if floor begins to dry.

Pick-up scrubbed solution with wet mop and bucket/wringer or wet vacuum with attachments.

Rinse floor by mopping with clear water to remove solution residue.

Apply cleaner solution to the next 10' x 10' area and repeat steps listed above.  Continue this cycle until entire floor has been completed.

Non-Glazed Floors - New or old non-glazed paver, quarry, ceramic, and terrazzo tile floors should be thoroughly scrubbed at scheduled intervals (usually monthly in Washroom areas).  Non-Glazed floor should never be coated with Floor Finish.  However, many manufacturers of these surfaces recommend a “Contractors Seal” be applied to seal the grout areas.

Follow the same procedures for Light Scrubbing when scrubbing Non-Glazed Floors.  A Brush Block used with the Roto Scrubbing Machine often works better than the Pad Driver because the bristles get down into the cracks and grout.

Glazed Floors - Glazed quarry tile, ceramic tile, marble, and natural stone floors should be maintained the same way as Non-Glazed Floors.  However,
THEY SHOULD NEVER BE COATED WITH SEALER OR FLOOR FINISH.
