Specialty Cleaning: Vent Cleaning

To remove unsightly dust and oily atmospheric soils from vent grids/slats to prevent this soil from being distributed onto surfaces below.

Wear chemical splash goggles, impermeable gloves, and other protective clothing or equipment, as necessary to prevent injury.

Mix a solution of General Purpose Cleaner in one mop bucket.  Add clear water to the second mop bucket.

Apply dust mop treatment to rabbit ear duster head at least 24 hours to allow the fibers to absorb the treatment before using.  Place the treated rabbit ear dust head on the rabbit ear flexible frame and attach the frame to the extension pole.

Bend the rabbit ear head at an angle that will allow the most effective penetration of the dust head into the vent grid/slats.

Extend the extension pole up to the vent to be dusted/cleaned.  The handle end of the extension poles should be at waist level after extending.  This will reduce arm fatigue.

Dusting - Wipe surface dust from vent grid/slats using quick, short strokes.  Remove as much loose soil as possible.

Cleaning - Attach the c-clamp holder to the extension pole.  Immerse clamped sponge in General Purpose Cleaner and squeeze out excess solution using a gloved hand.

Wipe soil from vent/slats using long, slow strokes.  This action will allow the General Purpose Cleaner to lift and emulsify the soil.

Rinse the sponge in the clear water mop bucket.

Repeat steps until all vents are cleaned.  Change General Purpose Cleaner and clean water rinse as they become dirt loaded.
