To
remove the dust and soil from light fixtures, bulbs, and lens
covers, which is unsightly and reduces light reflectivity.
•
Wear
chemical splash goggles, impermeable gloves, and other
protective clothing or equipment, as necessary to prevent
injury.
•
Place
one walk-off mat under the fixture to be cleaned and two
walk-off mats about 6 feet away from the fixture to be
cleaned. These
mats should be used for placement of any bulbs to be cleaned.
•
TURN
OFF ELECTRICITY. If this is not possible, tape all bulb
sockets with electrical tape.
•
Set
up the stepladder centering it over the walk-off mat under the
fixture to be cleaned. Secure all locking devices on the
ladder. Follow
OSHA Harness procedures
•
Mix
a solution of General Purpose Cleaner in one side of the
double bucket and a clean water rinse solution in the other
side of the double bucket.
•
Dust
all surfaces (interior and exterior) using a wiping cloth.
•
If
it is necessary to remove the globe or lens cover, loosen the
screws or latches while holding the bottom of the globe or
lens cover with the other hand.
Remove all bulbs at this time (incandescent or
fluorescent). Use
caution because incandescent bulbs may be hot.
•
Place
globes/lens covers, bulbs on the walk-off mats that were
placed 6' away from the area you are working.
Wash the globe/lens covers and cooled bulbs with a
wiping cloth submerged in the General Purpose Cleaner (wring
the cloth to avoid dripping).
•
Rinse
the area with the clean water rinse solution and another
wiping cloth (wring the cloth to avoid dripping).
Observe results. If
the items are not clean, repeat the procedure on another area
using a stronger concentration of
General Purpose Cleaner.
•
Continue
washing the globe/lens covers and cooled bulbs with the
correct concentration of solution.
•
Rinse
all surfaces with a clean damp wiping cloth and then dry with
a clean dry wiping cloth, or allow to drip dry if time
permits.
•
Clean
the fixture with a wiping cloth (wring the cloth to avoid
dripping and electrical shock), apply a General Purpose
Cleaner to a one square foot section using a back and forth
motion.
•
Rinse
the one square foot section with the clean water rinse
solution and wiping cloth (wring the cloth to avoid dripping
and electrical shock).
•
Dry
all surfaces with a clean dry wiping cloth, or allow to drip
dry if time permits.
•
Remove
all tape from electrical connections if the power was not
turned off. Replace
all bulbs, globes, and lens covers.
Move ladder and walk-off mat to the next section of
lights and repeat items 3 through 14.
