Dust
mopping is a process used to remove loose paper, trash, dust,
and soil from hard floor surfaces, using a treated dust mop.
It is important to note that dust mopping requires the
least amount of time, effort, and product of any hard floor
care method.
Such a simple procedure is often overlooked or thought
to be of little significance, but it is THE BEST PREVENTIVE
MEASURE there is in maintaining and preserving floors.
It has been estimated that between 80-90% of soil can
be removed by dust mopping.
Dust mopping also removes a large percentage of indoor
dust, which is an air pollutant, health hazard, and source
of allergies.
The
dust mop head serves as a reservoir for the dust mop
treatment.
The treatment is the key to picking up and holding
dust and loose soil on the mop head for removal by brushing
or vacuuming.
Many
dust mop treatments are solvent oils or solvent oils mixed
with water.
These treatments can do more harm than good because
they attack some floor finishes, increasing time-consuming
floor stripping and refinishing activities.
Use
a dust mop treatment which is made with a substance such as
paraffin wax suspended in a chemical solution.
Remember some treatments are safer than others.
Some carry UL listings on flammability and slip
resistance.
Never use a treatment that does not carry these UL
listings because that means it is not proven to be safe.
